“You need to let the little things that would ordinarily bore you suddenly thrill you.”
― Andy Warhol
So it’s Wednesday!!
And today’s “Forbidden Topic” is all about embracing the little things.
Little changes, brief moments, and little acts of kindness.
It’s easy to go through life with our day to day busy schedules and forget how important it is to embrace and enjoy the simplicity in things. With the next GREAT that and Newest this, it’s easy to forget how wonderful the original “that and this” was to begin with.
Trips to my grandmother house, playing double dutch outside with telephone cords until the lights came on… amazing, simple memories and TONS of fun.
Visiting a new city and not just going to the hottest club (not saying you shouldn’t go at all), but making time to discovering the local coffee shop and family owned clothing store so that you can leave with an idea of what that town, city, place is really about.
The older I get, the more I’ve learned to value the heart of the place, the heart of the person, and the heart of the moment. While glamorous things are great and the “fun” friends are a fun,
“If we all lost everything tomorrow, it’s important to know that you have friends you can count on for more than partying. It’s important to know how to have fun and love life without hardly anything at all.” – Maquita Donyel
It’s also important to pay attention to the little things that we can (and maybe even need to) change in our lives to result in BIG results.
This idea came about:
During a trip to the salon! Just like the barbershop for men, the beauty salon is one of the ORIGINAL “little things” for women. After chatting it up with my stylist, I left feeling like I had gotten a mental boost for the week. Beauty salon time & just getting pampered a bit, reminded me of how special just simple moments like this are and how necessary they are to get through our days.
From now until the end of Fall 2013:
I will provide a list of affordable and simple things to do that can provide life long memories. I will also provide “Little” Things we can do to change our lives in BIG ways.
A few ladies have already submitted the things they do by themselves, with their spouses, or as a family to spend quality time together. So you should too!! (Submit here)
While “Little” Things will not be something posted every Wednesday, I felt this Wednesday would be a perfect day to launch it.
I will post a unique and fun things that either I do, or other ladies do, to stay grounded and aware of just how important those “little” things are. Send in the simple things that YOU do for enjoyment and/or quality time with yourself, family, or friends.
Whether it’s getting up 30 mins early to water your flowers and watch the sun rise, or visit your favorite coffee shop on open mic night. We have from now until December I ask that you share as much as you can with, and we will share as much as we can with you!
My favorite little thing this week:
Baking cupcakes with mini.
While I throughly enjoy making my The Sugar Box Bakery request, it was nice to bake something just for fun. It was even more fun having minihelp out! Not only did we have super girly time licking the spoon and talking about our day, she’s getting a lot better with understanding measurements!!
“I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things… I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.”
