try again in a different way.”
― Dale Carnegie
Monday, Diana Nyad proved that perseverance prevails when at the age of 64, she became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without any sort of protective cage. It took her nearly 53 hours to complete the swim. Nyad attempted this very swim five times over the course of 35 years but what unable to finish due to excruciating jelly fish stings, asthma attacks, and many other complications.
This time around, she had teams of people to help her complete the swim. Various teams went ahead of her to clear the path of jelly fish, while others ensured there were not any sharks.
“More than the athletic feat, she wants to send a message of peace, love, friendship and happiness … between the people of the United States and Cuba,” said Jose Miguel Diaz Escrich, the person that helped organize the Cuba side of Nyad’s multiple attempts.
Congratulations Diana!! Thank for your showing us that we are the only ones that can stop ourselves from fulfilling our dreams. <3
