DIY Sharpie mugs are all over pinterest! Thought I would give them a try this and share them as Christmas presents from my family. Ours came out pretty good (mini’s came out the best of course), but I wish we would have read some online tips prior to finishing our mugs. SO, here are those tips for you! Enjoy!
– Let sit for 24 hours and THEN bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Some people have said with this technique their design was able to withstand the bottom level of the dishwasher! That’s pretty impressive.
– Do not use the sharpie where your mouth and/or beverage will be touching. Sharpie’s are still toxic and should not be digested.
– We read that silver and gold Sharpies (the metallics) tend to stay on the best; even more so than black.
– Let the mug heat up and cool down with the oven. Do not remove your mug until it has cooled in the oven. This will help prevent your DIY Sharpie mug from cracking.
If you have any tips of your own you would like to share, please do! I will add them to this list. Maquita@polishedpistil.com
I will be posting more pictures here as we give out our presents. Don’t want anyone taking a peep at the gift before it makes it under the Christmas tree!!
