So you’re all packed and ready to go, but no where to lay your head.

Allow me to introduce you to Airbnb !

IMG_1418Airbnb is the reason why my stay in the Hollywood Hills was equipped with a balcony, breathtaking view, fully stocked kitchen, and host for $100 per night. It’s the reason why my stay in the West Villiage neighborhood of New York City featured an exposed brick wall, a lovely kitchen, a complimentary bottle of wine, two bathrooms, two floors, a helpful host, and cable/internet for $350 per night ($70 per night when split between five people).

Airbnb is a site that allows, “people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world. Whether an apartment for a night, a castle for a week, or a villa for a month, Airbnb connects people to unique travel experiences, at any price point, in more than 34,000 cities and 190 countries.” – directly from the Airbnb website (follow them on twitter here)

How to Select a Place:

Note: Before booking carefully read the reviews, the rules, and the description regarding the place of interest.

For the LA trip, I chose a host with over 100 five star reviews. The reviews spoke to the host’s cleanliness, kindness, helpfulness, and prompt response time. All of which ended up being accurate information. For the New York City trip, I chose a host with only one review. But, because this was my second time using Airbnb and I knew I would be traveling with many other people, I felt this was worth the try. The listing was the detailed and clear and the host (a female, yes it mattered) was available for me to speak with many times prior to our stay. This host went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was comfortable.

How Does Paying Work?

“Pay through Airbnb’s trusted services.”

The host never sees your personal information.  Anything to do with payments is all handled through Airbnb.

You have two different ways of booking a place, Request to Book or Instant Book. Once the host accepts your request, or you instantly book, Airbnb immediately processes your payment and sends you an email with your trip details.
