I’m no model. My mood is typically plastered on my face whether I like it or not. I’m terrible at doing things on cue or by force, so when something is demanded of me my first instinct is to say no. I need the ‘yes’ to flow out of me. I’m a recovering adrenaline rush junkie that currently falls somewhere between going with the flow and considering every possibility before taking a leap. So, how did this photo come out so organically wonderful? This photo was taken by one of my best friends, a Brooklyn raised Boricua I met at the age of 18 during our college orientation. This is a girl whose pain became my pain, joy became my joy, and family became my family. We initially bonded over talking each other out of making questionable decisions, being able to have fun doing absolutely anything, and love (we’re just two big hearted gals). We…

A couple of months ago, my husband and I scored a TON of coconut flour for absolutely free on Craigslist.  With funds being low and not wanting to show up empty handed at a church event, it was time to be creative.  What did I do? I baked this pretty healthy loaf of bread.  The bread was inspired by https://recipes.sparkpeople.com. HOW TO: Five simple ingredients were called for: – 1/2 cup of coconut flour (See benefits below) -1/4 teaspoon of Celtic salt (I used pink Himalayan salt. Both are detoxifying and full of minerals!) -1/4 teaspoon of baking soda -5 or 6 eggs (I needed 6; the coconut flour is extremely absorbent) -1/2 cup of melted coconut oil (full of healthy fats and antibacterial properties) So, to be completely honest, the bread was super bland.  I was a little bummed out! That…

Awaken Your Inner Artist: How to Draw a Mandala “. . . the arts have been an inseparable part of the human journey; indeed, we depend on the arts to carry us toward the fullness of our humanity. We value them for themselves, and because we do, we believe knowing and practicing them is fundamental to the healthy development of our children’s minds and spirits. That is why, in any civilization – ours included – the arts are inseparable from the very meaning of the term ‘education.’ We know from long experience that no one can claim to be truly educated who lacks basic knowledge and skills in the arts.” –National Standards for Arts Education I’ve recently become intrigued by Mandalas.  I’ve read many definitions of what a mandalas are and what they represent.  My favorite, so far, is that, “A mandala represents your inner world and your outer reality”.  A…

Thank You I started writing “Thank you’s” about two and a half years ago. In our world today it’s so easy to get sucked into the fast momentum of everything and everyone in our surroundings. I’ve learned that taking time out to focus on gratitude transforms the world around you and your perception of life. Every morning I would write down ten things that I was presently grateful for; anything from the sun, to my job to my dog, River. In the beginning, I thought it would be difficult to think of ten different things each day, but once I got started, ideas would just continue flowing to me. Once I was done with that list, I’d go to the next page in my gratitude journal and write ten more things that had not yet physically manifested into my experience, but that I desired. I would write “thank you”…

Wellness | How Your Thoughts Shape Your Life Shaping Your Thoughts and Not Allowing Them to Shape You     It is easy to get wrapped up in the “hustle and bustle” of society today. Always on the go and far too busy with email, work, and extracurricular activities to relax. Because of this, we also often find ourselves anxious about what’s to come. Are things going to work out?” “I should have…could have…” “What if…” “Does he like me? Do I look skinny? Do I look fat?” The list could go on and on. The goal is to change that… “Rather than being your thoughts and emotions, be the awareness behind them.” ― Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose The human mind creates between 50,000-70,000 thoughts a day. That’s between 35-48 thoughts per minute! If you find that the majority of your 50,000…
